Design Challenge: The goal for this project was to create a realistic looking interpretation of a product that could be sold. This project required use of the gradient tool in Illustrator, recreating shapes with the pen tool and becoming more familiar with all of the tools we’ve learned about in class over the last couple months.
Design Process and Solution: After selecting my desired image, the Sega Genesis, I placed the photo into Illustrator as a template for the base image. I began by tracing the whole outline of the console, then meticulously traced each feature. Once the outlines were completed, I began to copy, paste and join the outlines to produce individual shapes for each section of the Sega. The next step was to fill each piece with a gradient that represented the actual colors, highlights and shadows to create the most realistic image possible. Recreating the letters and the grill on the left side of the console were the most challenging aspects of this process.
Software: I created this image in Adobe Illustrator, after finding the original image online.
