Collection: Habitat Restoration Magazine

Design Challenge: The goal of this project is to create a realistic, professional looking magazine layout that includes interesting content and images. Additionally, the design was intended to fulfill all of the requirements for the project, showing my knowledge of the InDesign program that I’ve learned over the course of this class.

Design Process: I wanted to create multiple spread compositions to create variety and interest throughout the magazine. The spreads are based on the parent page styles with two or three columns, but each is uniquely organized to test out different visually pleasing layouts, using symmetry and column guides. The color scheme was based on nature’s colors - mostly blues and greens. I tried to make the colors gradate through the magazine spreads and match the colors with the environments that the articles are based on - green for reforestation and agriculture, and blue for the ocean.

Design Solution: I chose to create a magazine about habitat restoration because it is a topic that interests me greatly. With so much negative news around the world, it’s a nice change to hear about positive projects and changes that improve the life quality of humans, animals, and the environment. The articles and images show basic information and the goal of each company or project.

Software: InDesign was the main program used to create this magazine’s composition and features. Photoshop was also used to size and adjust the photos as needed.
